DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON A CANE ROD BY WJ LONGMAN, ON THE LABEL, ON THE ROD, IT SAYS, WJ LONGMAN, IRONMONGER, 256 BARRACK RD, CHRISTCHURCH,AND THE TELEPHONE NUMBER 518. HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF THIS MAKER, I HAVN’T BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANYTHING OUT ABOUT IT. smile

We don’t know the shop but many hardware shops in the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s carried a selection of fishing tackle. If their order was large enough the supplier (travelling salesmen representing the big companies) would offer to put the shop’s name on the item. W J Longman was in a great position to sell tackle as Christchurch has the River Avon running through it, part of which is the famous Royalty Fishery. I bet it was a great looking shop!
