Hi Colin
very interested in your comments on catching sea trout off Lee on Solent. The Wild Trout Trust has a South Coast Sea Trout Project underway, aimed at improving spawning and juvenile habitat in the rivers, so we’d be interested in any other catchings / sightings in the area.
I fish for bass and mullet (with nothing like your success!) between the Meon and the Hamble, but have yet to catch a sea trout in the sea.

Hi Denise.
Thanks for your interesting post.
I’ll keep an eye out for you when fishing at HH or the Hamble and say hello.
My encounter with the Sea Trout was only the second time a shoal of that size has passed by.
Single fish are fairly common however and normally take you by suprise, gently taking the fly unseen, then jumping repeatedly upon feeling resistance until throwing the hook. Frustrating but great fun.
The fish vary in colour from a beautiful bronze to bright silver. A fish of 8lb was found by bait fishers on the gravel banks between HH and Lee last season after being trapped due to receeding tide.
I will PM you if I have any more sightings.
Good luck with the Bass and Mullet.

Sent you a PM the evening after your original post regards Seatrout sightings and hook-ups. Not sure if you received it. I’ve seen quite a number of fish in the last week, including some huge specimens. Hooked one fish and immediately lost it. Nothing new there!!

Hi Colin - aologies for delayed and sporadic replies - it’s that holiday time of year. And I’m very new at the forum thing.

Interesting that you say you have seen lots of fish (sea trout?). Would be interested in knowing roughly where.

I’ve been watching down at the tidal flaps at Titchfield Havan and seen some big bass and the usual mullet moving but not sea trout. Mullet in smaller numbers than last year in the harbour, I think.

There are some sea trout in the Meon now, up as far as Wickham, and loads coming into Woodmill pool at the bottom of the Itchen so it seems like peak time for them to be
around the river entrance and starting to move into the river.
