The week before Christmas

You know that 'experts' never have blanks or a bad session or a poor fishing trip. Well, I'm no expert! Yvonne and I have just spent two lovely weeks on the Canarian Island of Fuerteventura. Last time we went the weather was hot (this was early November) and I had some superb saltwater fly-fishing. This time the weather was hot out of the wind, but the wind had an icy edge to it. And, although I caught several smaller species of fish (five of which I have yet to name), including lots of small-medium sized mullet on spider wet flies, the anticipated biggies simply were not there...or at least, I didn't find them.

But it was nice getting a tan before Christmas; not nice arriving back in Manchester last night with the temperature at 0°C.

But who cares? 2004 is nearly upon us and I am going to fish the Outer Hebrides again. It is almost 20 years since I was last there. So...

To all readers of this web site, especially those of you who take Fly Fishing and Fly Tying: A very Happy Christmas and may your 2004 be a fishy one.
