Tay rafting ban suspended

Commercial rafting companies on the upper River Tay have persuaded a Sherrif to review the decision taken last month to restrict commercial rafting on part of the river.

In what was seen as a landmark ruling at the time, the original action, brought by landowners and Aberfeldy Angling Club, resulted in a rafting ban every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday during the salmon fishing season. This decision was taken last month at Perth Sherrif Court by Sherrif Michael Fletcher, who granted all of the restrictions being sought by the anglers.

However, following a complaint from one of the rafting operators (Freespirits), Perth Sheriff Principal Alastair Dunlop recalled the decision, giving the two sides time to look again at the original claim before the case calls again at court on April 25.

More on this story in April's FF&FT.
