The Grafham Water ‘Cruncher’

Kim Green was the winner of the Angling Trust Loch Style National Flyfishing Final, held at Grafham Water last Friday. Kim caught his eight fish limit in just two hours fishing off Deepwater Point using Crunchers. His time bonus of 5.75lb was enough to beat Ron Gent (second placed) whose eight fish although bigger, were caught later in the day. The average catch was an excellent 4.1 trout per rod for the 100 anglers who competed.

The top 28 rods will form the Angling Trust Team England squad who go forward to compete in the two Home Internationals in Ireland and Wales next year.

Results (and the 1-28 places for the Home Internationals) are listed in order below:
1st Kim Green
2nd Ron Gent
3rd David Drake

Paul Shaw, Fred Bainbridge, Alistair Beaumont, Andy Croucher, Richard Slater, Brad Gifford, Steve Cullen, Rob Sosbe, Ian Donaldson, Dave Morris, Nick Dunn, Lloyd Pallet, Mark Howard, Colin Martin, Bill Rankin, Martin Greatbatch, Paul Angell, Mark Macleod, John Stevenson, Steve Collins, Chris Micallef, Peter Appleby, Steve Ellerbeck, Mark Withyman, Sean Brooks.

The previous day at Grafham saw the launch of a new Wheelyboat. Named The John Hawkings in memory of a Grafham regular (and who represented England in the disabled team.) the Coulam 16 Wheelyboat has been purchased by Anglian Water and part-funded with the help of a grant from The Peter Harrison Foundation’s ‘Opportunities Through Sport’ programme. It joins the fleet of standard Coulam fishing boats and replaces the Mk II Wheelyboat that had been operating at Grafham since 1984.
