When empty this looks (disturbingly) like a cross between a surgical appliance and an article of leather fetish-wear. Add a fly box, snips, clamp, flotant and the other essentials and you have a super means of simplifying and focusing on the core necessities of a few flies.
This most clearly appeals to the angler who knows what will be needed for a fishing session. It does not suit the angler who needs every tool on the market, every spool of tippet from 0.25kg to 25kg in three types of mono, four types of flotant, and of course every fly they have ever tied ready at hand! (Which may mean it's not for me.)
The neck strap is broad and comfortable, the lanyard itself is elasticated. Around my neck the pouch sits just above my belly-button with the tool clips closer to my chin – any closer and I would have trouble using them. The pouch takes the Wheatley 6x4 boxes I use as standard and seems flexible enough for most boxes about that size. I can find placed for tippet, snips, unhooking pliers, floatant and still have room for more. A simple elasticated cord goes around my body and stops the box flopping about when I walk, or (miraculously) break into a trot, or simply bend down to release a fish. So, I can wear the Goetzen lanyard over all other gear and clothing (not over a life-jacket) or under a wading jacket on those all too familiar grizzling wet boat-fishing days. A very practical piece of kit.
