This is a nicely put together DVD. The linking sequences especially when Glascoe was playing up to the camera had me wanting to see what was going on behind the scenes and wondering if Hywel is hiding a few out-takes somewhere.
Hywel Morgan’s name should be familiar to ‘fluff-chuckers’, Ant Glascoe probably less so. Where Morgan is expert with a fly rod, Glascoe is a pike expert with a taste for large lures and spinning rods. That, in a nutshell, is the premise of this DVD and it works well – certainly kept me watching.
The style, the chat between the two, is informal but carries plenty information and insight. As presenter/interviewer Hywel’s energy and confidence drives this along, Glascoe’s knowledge of their target species and his skills with his gear are obvious. I seemed to come away from this with a basic idea of modern lure fishing for pike: tackle, lures and techniques. Hywel introduces Ant to a fly rod suitable for pike and, considering he is a novice with a fly rod he made a pretty good go of it. The idea being if he can do it then an experienced fly angler should have no problems.
Both make their disciplines seem accessible so I found myself wanting to try both methods – actually I just want to catch a double figure pike!
