Evolved from the now common rod tube made from a hard, plastic tube covered in nylon fabric. Simply add a padded compartment for a fly reel, cut away a little of the tube so a rod with a reel mounted can slide in. For those of us who carry a basic outfit in the car boot ‘just in case’ this type of tube is exceptionally handy – unzip and pull out the whole deal, rod already fitted with reel. And if you’re that eager it’s perfectly possible to leave the line threaded up the rod, so it’s just a matter of pushing the parts together and get fishing.

Wychwood designed this Rod and Reel Carrier for one 4-piece rod up to 10ft or 3-piece under 8ft – several other lengths are available. Wychwood also make a big brother to this version, the Competition, which takes a pair of rods, exactly what I might want to carry to a boat. Good idea.
