As this is a pre-production model this is a preview, not a review. I’m told the body and cosmetics are finalised but a beefed up drag mechanism will be fitted to the production reel.
This cause a minor stir at Tackle and Guns earlier in the year – “Have you seen the white reel?” Designed as a light duty saltwater fly reel, the Salt is a large arbour cassette reel. The spool attaches to the body with a captive nut – no play whatsoever between body and spool. Supplied with three cassettes in a fitted, semi-rigid case. The spec says the spools will hold 100 yards of micro backing and a WF7F fly-line and, again according to the specification, the finished reel should be light considering the type and size of this reel. Until I have a production model in my hand I can’t really comment too much but at this stage, as a saltwater reel, the backing capacity seems a little conservative.
And, of course, it’s white! The idea being white objects reflect light and heat.
