Fishing charity aims to raise £5k on Tuesday

Fishing for Schools (F4S), the charitable initiative run by the Countryside Alliance and headed up by FF&FT’s Charles Jardine has set itself an ambitious challenge for #GivingTuesday (which this year takes place on December 3, 2019). Aiming to raise £5,000 in one day, Charles Jardine is attempting the Ring of Wessex Waters Challenge, which means he will will be starting early, in an attempt to catch a fish on the Itchen before moving on to the Wylye, Test, Dever, Avon and Ebble and lastly, at Dever Springs.

Charles will have to catch at each venue before he can move on to the next water, and is inviting sponsorship of at least £1 for each water fished and for each fish caught from supporters.

The whole day's activity centres around Giving Tuesday, which is the one day in a year that charities and non-profit organisations rally their supporters for a day of maximum fundraising impact. If Fishing 4 Schools attain their target, then the money will enable 30 more young people to take part in the F4S courses next year.

F4S has been running since 2007, providing free, short angling courses for schools across the country, to aid the education of 10 to 16-year-olds who may not respond to traditional classroom-based learning, but flourish when you get them outside onto the water.

Charles said: “It will be quite a challenge, due to the short number of daylight hours but the cause is so important. We know that the work we do with Fishing for Schools can make all the difference to the pupils who take part, but we simply cannot fund as many courses as we would like to offer, so we need your help to fundraise. Please be generous and give these youngsters the chance to experience the countryside and outdoor learning with us.”

In tandem with Charles’ fishing exploits, bakers can also help the cause, as F4S is also organsing a Fishy Cake Bake: either bake or decorate a cake, or any other sweet treat, share it with friends, colleagues and family and make a donation to F4S through the donation page. The CA invites bakers to share pictures of your bake on social media with the hashtags #GivingTuesday, #TurnYourTuesday and #FishyCakeBake
